Life :: Well done, Erik!
Wow, this past month has been such an adventure! *ah, here he goes with the BIG statements, once again… get a grip, dude…* Haha, I can’t help it! Life keeps getting better and better, and I see no reason to put any sort of lid on my excitement :D Currently enjoying a little bit of the old ‘Saturday night photography me-time’, alone in the university Mac lab. Great...

Townsville :: Creativity in the Tropics
Ok, let’s get the basic stuff out of the way first; Yes, I’ve arrived in Australia. Yes, I’ve found a place to stay. Yes, I have familiarised myself with the university campus. Yes, I have located the grocery store. I am well, healthy and rested, and our house has a pool (!!!). Now, the first thing that hits you (literally) when you arrive in Townsville on a February morning is the heat. It is...

Townsville :: "Wait... where?"
“Why Townsville?” Well, to answer this question we first have to go back to a broader one; Why Australia? Alright, so why even consider Australia as a place to go study? The key word for me was different. I wanted to go some place different, especially in terms of climate. Not because I hate Norway or its climate, by no means. I love Norway, and I’m grateful to have grown up...

Inspiration :: Joseph Hutson
This city can be so seductive, I forget what the world looks like on the outside. Lose track of what I used to call normal. How amazingly adaptive human beings are… Yesterday, I spotted a man sitting on the ground outside Dubai Mall. He is looking intently at the back of a Canon 5D mark II, which is sitting on a heavy-duty tripod. Every couple of seconds, he nudges himself and the tripod...

Dubai :: Fast, Friendly and Fabulous
Dubai is absolutely nuts, guys! Wherever you look, you spot something that’s bigger, faster or more expensive than anything you’ve ever seen. It’s like going to a theme park for the first time. Only bigger. The jetboat that my relatives have bought a share in is very practical. 60 knots - no problem. 180 degree turn - no problem. 40 cm of water - no problem. All this...

Travel :: I did this and this and this...
Alright guys, I know this is not a travel blog - but I’m currently undergoing the longest voyage of my life so far; Oslo - Dubai - Australia. I want to share it with you. The upcoming posts will mostly consist of imagery, as I find writing about travels quite boring and monotonous, even borderline egocentric (“I arrived here and met this person and did this thing and bought this...

Adventure :: And so it begins...
Good morning everybody! This is it. Norway, I’m leaving you today. Not sure when I’ll be back, but I want you to know that I’ve enjoyed every second of snow, cold, rain and wind that you’ve given me these past weeks. It’s time for the next act. As I’m writing this, my sister is giving me a street tour of my new home town (Google Maps). Amazing and completely...

Milestone :: A Return and a Promise
Hello friends! How are you doing? Yes, it’s been a long time since I posted something, but what can I say – life happened. Wait a minute. That’s a horribly vague excuse. Truth is, I haven’t felt the urge to blog for quite some time. It’s weird how some things slip out of my consciousness, seemingly spontaneously. Well, I’ve decided to put my brain out of auto-pilot, floor...

creativeLIVE :: 13 Lessons from Matthew Jordan...
This weekend I had the joy and the privilege to watch Matthew Jordan Smith’s creativeLIVE course on Fashion and Beauty Photography. This is what I learned from a sloppy first-time watch of the live workshop.  The only reason I’m able to comprise this list is because I had pen and paper at the ready throughout.  Dedication is not supposed to be easy.  You gotta want it! The barriers...

Update :: Last Glimpse of the Sun
Darkness approaches quickly for us here in Narvik. This is my first time experiencing this “Nature’s Nap”, and I must say it feels much like I expected it to: dark. I won’t see the sun again while I’m in Narvik. It returns here at the end of January, and by then, I’ll be long gone. Where I’m headed, the sun never sleeps… Man, has this been a...

Kelby Training :: Calvin Hollywood
I’ve been watching a lot of Kelby Training courses lately. If you’re not familiar with it, it’s basically a subscription based online training center for photography, graphic design and editing. I can highly recommend it to anyone interested in either of the above. The instructors are absolutely top notch, and the courses are professionally filmed and produced. You can...

Help-Portrait :: Initial Planning
“Help-Portrait: Narvik” is becoming a reality!  WHEN? After a couple of meetings at a local help center for drug addicts, we have decided on a date: December 9th. Sure, it’s not the official Help-portrait date, but it was the most practical for them. So that’s decision #1 done! WHERE? As for the location, I’m not really sure yet. We hope to be able to do it inside...

Inspiration :: Joey L.
I try to start every post with an image, but I couldn’t find one of mine that does this guy justice. Joey Lawrence is one of the most inspirational photographers I know of.  He’s a phantom when it comes to photography. He’s portrayed America’s most famous actors, musicians and celebrities, including “50 cent”, “Jonas Brothers” and the...

Help-Portrait :: Decision Time
I’ve decided to start planning a Help-Portrait event here in Narvik.  Step one is finding someone in need. A few phone calls have led to a local help center. I’m presenting the project to them tomorrow morning. So excited to do something meaningful with my photography! Hopefully, they’ll understand what I’m trying to do and work with me to make it happen. By a stroke of...

Update :: Nature vs My Clothes
Wow, winter approaches fast! I’m starting to realize that my wardrobe is horribly under-qualified for the climate up here. A part of me wishes I was somewhere warmer. Another part says “Bring it on!”.  Well, instead of indulging in this inner conflict, I’ve decided to let it be and focus on the present. How am I feeling right now? Pretty darn good! ;)

Milestone :: Magazine Article
The magazine is out, and I’m finally able to show you the article about me and my “Approach” project :D Now, I don’t want to mislead you; the magazine INarvik is always looking for interesting people and events to feature. Update :: Magazine Madness
The past few days have been hectic… and exciting! I’ve been interviewed by the local magazine INarvik. They are writing an article on me and my “Approach” project. I’m looking to get more involved with the magazine, hopefully do some work for them in the coming months =) Also, I’m trying to get in touch with photographers here in Narvik. It’s nice to...

Inspiration :: Sharing
Do you enjoy taking pictures? Then I want to hear from you! I don’t care if you’re using a disposable camera or a Hasselblad. I want to see your work, hear your opinions and draw from you creative power! To me, photography is about sharing. Sharing knowledge, sharing information, yes. But most of all, it’s about sharing moments. One. At. A. Time.  Recently, I’ve...

Update :: Fall has Come
Hello guys and gals! Fall has definitely come to Narvik. Leaves are racing raindrops to the ground, and temperatures are plummeting. Chilly, to say the least : ) It always fascinates me how cities (especially in Northern Norway) change completely in appearance with the seasons. It’s hilarious that Australia is heading into spring at this time of year. Speaking of which, my...

Update :: Flying High
Hello broskies! I’m in such an amazing mood today! :D Been listening to “Colours of the Wind” from Pocahontas for 2 hours, watched “Rain Man” for the first time, and I’m about to read another chapter of the fascinating book “My Stroke of Insight” by Jill Bolte Taylor. And I ordered a harmonica… Believe what you want, I love my life! ...

Approach :: Progress
Went out on the streets again the other day, alone this time. Met plenty of great personalities, just as last time, and I’m starting to feel more comfortable with approaching them. The technical aspects of flash photography are becoming more and more automatic, and I can focus on communicating with my the person in front of my lens. The image above is one of my favorites from the day,...

Life Smiles :: How I ended up in Narvik
It’s June 2011. I just finished my A-levels. My dream: to study at James Cook University in Townsville, Australia. After some research my dream seems realistically possible. The semester at JCU starts in February of 2012… Where do I go until then??? This is when I got an offer to stay with my family in Narvik. Seeing as my mother and sister both moved from Halden the year before, I...

Photoshoot :: Still Keeping it Casual
Here are some of the photos from a shoot I did in late December. These two lively young women are Pernille and Therese, two good friends who contacted me after seeing some of my images on Facebook.  As you probably all know by now, I am not one to put a person in a chair, say “Cheese!” and push a button. In the old days, nice lighting and a good pose would be sufficient to sustain a...

Update :: Blog and Life
Hey everyone! I know the posts haven’t been as frequent lately, and I apologize for that. What can I say? Yes, a lot has been going on, but that’s no excuse for slacking on the blogging. Event :: Carskating
Hey guys! As my Twitter followers will know, I was at an ice-track event this weekend, getting back into the hang of motorsports photography. Did I succeed? I decided (from experience) to bring a friend along this time, and we had a great time watching all the cars “iceskating” ‘round the soon-to-be retired track. Classic Alfa Romeo going sideways. God, I love these...

Photoshoot :: Keeping it casual
Hey guys! I have been editing like a madman this past week. The reasoning for this madness was the need to deliver photos from two shoots from last year, before Christmas (just prior to my convenient catching of the flu). All is well now, however, as everyone has received their promised pictures and expressed great appreciation of them =) Life is good… This was the first of the shoots,...

I’ve been… wondering. Wondering a whole lot these past weeks… What to do with my life, how to lead one that is comfortable, yet rewarding and active, what to cook for dinner… What should I do to improve myself going into this new year? Should I even try to change anything? It’s been an interesting month… Happy 2011, by the way :) Mood changes. Having been...

Update :: Dark (and busy) times
Busy schedule = less blogging (deal with it :P) A considerable amount of important academic obligations has unfortunately prevented my blogging activity these past weeks. There it is. Hey guys! Recently realized that Christmas is just around the corner ^^ Scrambling for gift ideas, which turned out to be particularly difficult this year, as my budget has shrunk considerably since I moved out from home. Gear :: "Big Ben"
Hey all! A new piece of equipment arrived today, the Benro A-650 EX (hereby referred to as Big Ben). This aluminium tripod cost me 2 000 NOK (~300 USD) and so far it seems to be great value for the price :) The ball head (BH-2) is very easy to maneuver, although it does make a vague grinding sound when rotated. Not as smooth as I had hoped, but it doesn’t hinder...

How’s it going, guys? Junior tennis tournament here in Halden last weekend. Blog :: New Layout!
Hey guys! As you may or may not have noticed, the blog has been going through some major changes these past couple of days. Hello all you wonderful, generous people out there ;) How are you all doing? So the dark time of year is upon us, and for me, this traditionally means my photography is about to catch a bit of a funk. Hi guys! Not much going on in terms of photography these days. Personal :: CreativeLIVE
Hello there, internet! Today, I thought I’d share a story with you. One that has greatly influenced me, both as a photographer and as a person.
